Colin Barras

Science writer

Bio

Colin Barras is a science writer focusing on life sciences. He has a BSc in geology from the University of Edinburgh, an MSc in palaeobiology from the University of Bristol, a PhD on the Jurassic evolution of sea urchins from the University of Birmingham, and an MSc in science communication from Imperial College London. He began working as a staff journalist at New Scientist in 2007, and held a number of reporting and editing roles. He has been a freelance writer since 2012 and continues to contribute regularly to New Scientist as a reporter and editor. Colin has also written for outlets including Nature, Science and BBC Future. He has written a number of books, including several for Scholastic, a publisher and distributor of educational materials for schools.
